Sunday, Oct. 16 was a beautiful day with sunny skies, bursts of wind and high 60’s temperatures.
Newark’s walk for cancer traveled along Broad Street from Military Park to Lincoln Park and back. Refreshments, fundraising items, music and good spirits were everywhere. Mayor Booker, Batman, NJ Devils mascot were there to name a few people of interest.

Organizers of the march said that this year’s event raised $345,000 and had 12,000 participants. These figures outpaced last year by $25,000 and 3,000 marchers.

Given just two weeks, the Newark Teachers’ Union reported raising $2,430 and sends thanks to all NTU members who pledged to this year’s event. NTU offices were open throughout the entire event to provide access to restrooms, water, coffee and a place to reflect. Thanks to NTU Vice-presidents and Staff, for coming out and walking the walk:  Cynthia Wade (NTU-ACS Coordinator), Kathleen Murphy-Butler, John Abeigon (NTU Director of Organization), Joseph Amabile (NTU Secretary-Treasurer), Michael and Gina Maillaro and Joseph Fonseca.

NTU calls for AFT members to plan on joining in next year and promises that NTU will be there again bigger and better!
