Union position: Vice president of the Newark Teachers Union and NTU Education Foundation chairperson

My union story: I proudly serve as vice president of the Newark Teachers Union, advocating for fair working conditions, educator support and student success. As a member of the union’s negotiations team, I helped secure a historic win through the Newark Public Schools collaboration initiative and contributed to the development of an advanced salary guide. I also serve as chair of the NTU Education Foundation, supporting professional development, member engagement, recognition and scholarship opportunities for members, their children and Newark Public Schools students. These roles reflect my continued commitment to elevating educators’ voices at the local and state levels.

Career highlights/achievements: For more than 15 years, I have dedicated my career to education as a math and computer science teacher serving middle and high school students. Working with students from diverse backgrounds and learning needs has shaped my approach to teaching, leadership and advocacy. In addition to teaching, I serve as a tech lead, school coordinator, and member of the scheduling and climate and culture teams. As a STEM educator, I am passionate about advancing math, science and technology education while preparing students with the critical thinking and digital literacy skills needed for the future. Born and raised in Newark, I take pride in giving back to the community that helped shape me. 

Interests/hobbies: I enjoy supporting educational initiatives and creating opportunities for educators and students to feel connected to a caring community. I am passionate about service, collaboration and advocating for opportunities that empower both educators and students. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my children, solving jigsaw and mind puzzles, building LEGO sets and writing poetry.
