Union position: Treasurer for the North Bergen Federation of Teachers
My union story: When I was a child, my father was a proud union member. He worked for a trucking company and would talk about the benefits of being in a union. I would hear stories about how the union would help its members in need by offering assistance with everyday quality of life issues inside and outside of the workplace. Unions give workers a voice and a seat at the table. As I entered the workforce, I was proud to become a union member. My involvement with the union allows me to continuously work at improving the livelihoods of all of our members, their families and our communities.
Career highlights / achievements: For more than 30 years, I have had the pleasure and honor of being a member of the AFT, eventually taking on the role of building representative, and now my local’s treasurer and contract negotiations team member. I cherish the responsibility of my position to continue my union’s advocacy for our fellow members and our students. It is especially rewarding to be able to give back to the district in which I was born and raised.
Interests / hobbies: As a union officer, I follow and monitor current educational news, events and policies that pertain to our members. I share this information to our members in order for our membership to be better prepared for the challenges we face. I also take pride in being fiscally responsible with our membership dues and strengthening our local’s financial strength. At home, I like to unwind by watching soccer and hockey. I also enjoy playing video games with my son, family trips and family gatherings.
