The median base salaries of tenured and tenure-track professors at four-year colleges increased by 2 percent in 2014 — a rate of salary growth that was down a tenth of a percent from the previous year, according to the results of an annual survey released on Monday by the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources.

For the second consecutive year, salary increases for professors at public colleges outpaced those of their peers at private institutions: Their salaries rose by 2.1 percent and 2 percent, respectively. Over all, the median increase in base pay for professors was 2 percent.

Consistent with previous years, law, business, and engineering were again the disciplines with the highest salaries for professors.
