On June 30, AFT New Jersey’s delegate assembly voted to endorse U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill for governor of New Jersey.

“As a constituent of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for the past six years, I have seen her work diligently to represent the interests and meet the needs of her constituents,” AFTNJ President Jennifer S. Higgins said in a media release issued July 1. “Like U.S. Sen. Andy Kim, public service is a way of life for Mikie. I know that her dedication to her constituents in the 11th congressional district will extend to all of New Jersey’s residents when she is elected this November as the next governor of the Garden State.”

“I’m proud to have the support of the American Federation of Teachers New Jersey,” Sherrill said. “From early childhood education, to K-12 and higher ed, educators play a critical role in building and shaping the leaders of tomorrow. As governor, I’ll support our teachers by fully funding their pensions, investing in New Jersey’s colleges and universities, ensuring that our teachers have the resources and support they need in their classrooms, and protecting the benefits they have earned. I look forward to working alongside AFTNJ to build the next generation of leaders right here in the Garden State.”
