In a vote of confidence in the leadership of Rowan University’s president, Ali Houshmand, the school’s trustees on Wednesday extended his contract into 2017.

The board said Houshmand was “moving the institution forward during times of potential unprecedented growth and opportunity for dramatic change.”

The trustees acted despite a last-minute attempt by Houshmand to delay the announcement because he thought it might draw attention from other significant changes the school was preparing. He eventually relented.

The board on Wednesday also approved four major construction projects, for which the school will seek funding from last fall’s higher-education bond referendum.
