Rutgers University has a nifty rule that says if an issue is not on the agenda, the public can’t talk about it a a Board of Governors meeting. The board met Wednesday and guess what wasn’t on the agenda? The proposed Rutgers/Camden-Rowan merger and tuition. Two topics everyone is talking about. Guess the Rutgers board doesn’t think those are worthy topics. Students went ahead and read a statement calling for no tuition hikes and the end of the merger proposal. Ralph Izzo, the board chairman, counted to 10, then sent in security to remove the protesters. Izzo obviously is a big fan of European style dictators. Incredibly, the Star-Ledger reported, the protest came after board members considered a resolution to put even more restrictions on speakers at Rutgers meetings. That’s what happens when you know you’re doing is not in the best interests of the public. The proposal was tabled. Good for the students for speaking up to the board.
