In celebration of Black History Month, the Soulsville Foundation on Feb. 3 will debut the film “Soul of America: The Evolution of Soulsville” online.

Geared toward educators, students and schools, “Soul of America” is about the youth efforts to revitalize the neighborhood in Memphis, Tennessee, known as Soulsville USA, where the legendary Stax Records and its recording studio were based. It’s now the home of the Stax Music Academy and the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the film’s co-creators.

Music by such Stax-associated artists as Isaac Hayes and Otis Redding can be heard throughout the film.

“Our ultimate desire is for students to connect with the power of community and the rich musical history of Stax Records and be inspired to create art that is relevant to their current experience,” said Isaac Daniel, Stax Music Academy’s executive director.

Those who register as educators will receive study guides in advance. For more info and to register, click here.
