The New Jersey Assembly’s Transportation Committee on May 12 released A1282, which would require the Department of Environmental Protection to develop and implement an electric school bus program.

In other bus-related developments, Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel on May 11 unveiled a proposal to allow the use of federal E-Rate funding for Wi-Fi in school buses.

“Wiring our school buses is a practical step we can take that is consistent with the history of the E-rate program,” Rosenworcel said during a meeting of the National Coalition for Technology in Education & Training. “This common-sense change could help kids who have no broadband at home. I look forward to having my colleagues join me in approving this step to support the online educational needs of our nation’s schoolchildren.”
