Teachers at Merit Prep Charter School in Newark are being denied payment for work already performed. A number of educators at Merit were on involuntary 12-month payout schedules, but the school has been closed by the state. Merit Prep decided it could save money by withholding the July and August portions of its employees’ contractually agreed-upon salaries. This amounted to over $12,000 for some employees, despite the state’s directive for Merit Prep to fulfill all of its contractual and financial obligations.
These educators are being treated unfairly and need our support. Help us ensure that Matchbook Learning keeps its promise to its employees, and pays them their hard-earned wages and benefits.
