Weekend event promotes collaboration then sharing on networking site

More than 50 New Jersey teachers are expected to cram on their own homework during an intensive weekend of refining lesson plans to make sure they will ultimately help students crunch numbers, review scientific formulae and improve comprehension. Two Perth Amboy teachers who have been facilitating these 40-hour plus weekend workshops around the country will lead the effort, promoting collaboration among local educators then sharing the lesson plans through the peer networking site ShareMyLesson.com.

Share My Lesson is a website developed by teachers, for teachers. Anyone who works with kids, from day care to classrooms to community centers can register on the site, download and share their best resources. The site is completely free and it is for all educators. The New Jersey teachers will making sure the lesson plans are educationally sound and Danielson-ready, consistent with the state’s evaluation process and Common Core. The New Jersey workshop will also highlight development of materials for English Language Learners/Bi-Lingual students and for early childhood education.

  • Donna M. Chiera, AFTNJ President, retired self contained special education teacher for most of her 30 plus year career, finishing as a resource room teacher.
  • Heidi Glidden, AFT National Manager of Resources and Dissemination for Educational Issues in Washington, DC, responsible for the Share My Lesson site and for providing resources and materials to help teachers succeed.
