higher education

Governor Christie again demonstrated how his words don’t reflect his values. In yesterday’s budget speech, he cited the importance of our institutions of higher learning, highlighting the expansion of many of our campuses. While new academic buildings are needed to stem the tide of students leaving the state, New Jersey’s colleges and universities need funding for people to teach in those buildings and to support student services.

However, again this year, the governor is calling for flat funding for higher education, depriving students of opportunity. We need increased funding to support New Jersey’s colleges and universities.

In addition, Governor Christie proposed a significant cut to the Equal Opportunity Fund (EOF), a beneficial program that helps minority, low-income and first generation college students succeed.

Please ask your state legislators to pass a budget that increases funding for New Jersey higher education and prioritizes funding for education from pre-kindergarten through higher education.
