NEW BRUNSWICK – Students staged a sit-in at Tuesday’s Rutgers University Board of Governors meeting, asking that that the university be declared a “sanctuary campus” in response to fears that undocumented students may face federal deportation after the inauguration of Donald Trump as president next year.
Even after the board meeting in Winants Hall adjourned, the small group of students remained on the floor in front of the governors’ seats and chanted, “Sanctuary here, no papers, no fear” and “do the right thing” and “shame, shame.”
