TRENTON — The head of the Senate Budget Committee called it “insulting” that the Christie administration has yet to put a price tag on his proposed reorganization of the state’s higher education system at the same time it holds on to a self-imposed July 1 deadline for approval.

“Quite frankly, it’s insulting to this committee that no one can give this committee a dollar amount on how much this will cost,” said State Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-Bergen), chairman of the Senate Budget Committee.

The criticism came as the state’s secretary of higher education, Rochelle Hendricks, testified this morning before the budget committee.
