Will the merger of Rutgers University-Camden into Rowan University be a boon to South Jersey? Gov. Chris Christie wants the merger to occur because he claims it will present opportunities for academic and economic growth for South Jersey.

Was there any definitive research done and presented to the governor on these suggestions that show there will be significant new and worthwhile opportunities for academic and economic growth?

Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney, D-Gloucester, said the proposed merger will strengthen the ability of South Jersey to attract higher-paying jobs and new technology-based businesses. Christie and Sweeney are in agreement on the merger.

More thought to analyze the benefits of such a merger are needed.
