[…] Workers at the health care facilities affected by the merger — UMDNJ runs several clinics throughout the state and University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey’s largest charity care provider – are worried about their jobs and say their counsel was never sought on the merger.

“They should have the front-line workers involved and not have the money sucked out of the plan by these high-priced consultants,” said Jeanne Otersen, policy director for the Health Professionals and Allied Employees union, which represents 4,000 middle-income workers at UMDNJ. “What does McCarter & English know about running a low-income health clinic?”
