A proposed reorganization of New Jersey’s higher education system, released last month by a special state task force and supported by Gov. Chris Christie, has set tongues wagging across New Jersey.

The plan would create three research campuses, one each in the northern, central and southern parts of the state. This would be achieved through measures including the break-up of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, and the merger of the Rowan University and Rutgers-Camden campuses.

“We cannot compete economically in this state with ‘good but not great’ educational institutions at any level,” Christie said in support of the plan. “We need to make the steps happen to go from good to great.”

Do you agree that these and other proposed changes are what’s needed to bring the state’s higher education system from good to great? Check out the views expressed in the editorials and columns below, and share your thoughts!
