PARAMUS — The Bergen County Executive’s Office has again flagged spending at the county community college, saying its trustees aren’t as careful as they should be with the school’s public money.

At issue Tuesday was the approval by the Bergen Community College trustees of more than $200,000 for speakers, attorneys, rentals and consultants, including a search firm to find a new college president.

Jeanne Baratta, chief of staff for County Executive Kathleen Donovan, asked that the items be pulled from the college trustees meeting agenda for further discussion. The trustees did discuss the issues but went ahead and approved them at a meeting Tuesday night.

The board agreed to spend up to $91,766 to hire the search firm of Isaacson, Miller Inc. to help find a permanent replacement for former President Jerry Ryan, who was ousted from his post last summer.
