While acknowledging that the collective effort to address educational disparities throughout the pandemic “has been nothing short of inspiring,” U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel A. Cardona realizes more work needs to done and that “this next chapter in our country’s education history must dwarf those efforts.”
In a recent column for EdSurge, Dr. Cardona takes what he calls “a deeper dive” into the values and priorities of the U.S. Department of Education.
“While each state or district may approach these goals differently,” Dr. Cardona writes, “this road map provides examples of how states, districts and Congress can move our shared priorities from dreaming to doing immediately.”
As part of his road map, Dr. Cardona calls for addressing PreK-12 opportunity and achievement gaps, along with making higher education’s affordability and inclusiveness a priority.
