With social distancing and remote learning cutting into the amount of time for actual instruction, teachers nationwide have also been cutting down on their lessons.

“I have to make decisions constantly about what material I’m not going to cover because it is impossible to get it all done,” said Pennsylvania biology-chemistry teacher Leigh Foy.

“We’ve managed to cover every topic. There’s just some components that are a little cursory,” said Peter Madsen, a U.S. history teacher in New Mexico, referring to what he’s been able to teach his eighth-grade students this school year about the Constitution.
