In his latest blog entry for Education Week, California high school teacher Larry Ferlazzo asks five educators the following question: How do you teach about slavery in the history of the United States?

“Effectively teaching about the history of enslaved people and the practice of chattel slavery in the United States is to tell the honest, unmitigated truth,” says Keturah Proctor. “Teaching about the enslavement of Africans in the United States is to first recognize that your knowledge base is flawed and whitewashed.”
