Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos on Jan. 7 submitted her resignation, effective Jan 8.
In her resignation letter to President Donald Trump, she cited the impact of his rhetoric on the chaos that unfolded Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol, “and it is an inflection point for me.”
“That behavior was unconscionable for our country,” she wrote.
AFT President Randi Weingarten, an outspoken critic of DeVos, was succinct in her Jan. 7 statement about the education secretary’s resignation: “Good riddance.”
