New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci on Sept. 24 spoke via Zoom about the ways in which New Jersey has handled the pandemic.
On the subject of N.J. school districts reopening with a mix of in-person, remote and hybrid learning, Dr. Fauci said, “I think you are doing it quite prudently and carefully. I think if you do that and maintain the level of infection that you have right now — with a plan of how to deal with when a child gets infected, what to do — I think you’re going to be in good shape. I think ultimately you’re going to be able to get more and more advancing, but you’re starting off carefully and prudently.”
He added, “We all should try to open schools. Nobody should get the impression that I or anybody else wants to keep kids out of school. … The easiest way to safely get the children back to school is that if you live in a red zone, or if you live in a yellow zone, do everything you can to get your zone to become a green zone or a dark green zone. That’s the best way to get the kids back to school.”
