AFTNJ President Donna M. Chiera has issued the following statement on New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s Sept. 17 announcement regarding the restoration of a millionaires tax that will be included in the revised state budget:

“We are pleased that Gov. Murphy and key legislators worked out an agreement on restoring the millionaires tax that we have supported in the past. Raising taxes on New Jersey’s high-income earners will bring revenues into the state, provide necessary relief to working families and, to quote the governor, generate revenues ‘to do more for our schools.’

“This is the first step to putting New Jersey back on the path to economic recovery, and it also sets a collaborative tone for the legislature and the governor to develop and pass a state budget that benefits working New Jerseyans.”
