The New Jersey Department of Education has been conducting meetings with stakeholders in education to formulate the state plan for implement of the federal “Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the successor of “No Child Left Behind” in guiding education policy.
The Perth Amboy Federation hosted a small group information session after school Monday (Oct. 24) to discuss best practices in successful schools and where teacher training, professional development and programs for students need improvement. Local President Patricia Paradiso will review the Department’s notes from Monday’s session and a follow up focus group is scheduled for November to provide input in greater detail.
AFT is still advocating on the federal level for ESSA policies that make sense for students . At the state level, New Jersey DOE has a video, a fact sheet and is compiling input submitted to ESSA@doe.state.nj.us to consider in implementing state level policy.
See AFT resources with fact sheets about ESSA to get our national take on maintaining quality educational standards. Review the state’s resources and submit input.
Upcoming meetings are scheduled in North Bergen and Garfield.
