With debate over standardized testing and Common Core standards roaring in Montclair and districts throughout the state, the New Jersey General Assembly approved a bill on Monday calling for a task force to consider the impact of the state’s shift to the Common Core.

Assembly Bill 3081, co-sponsored by District 34 Assembly members who represent Montclair, Sheila Oliver and Thomas Giblin, a township resident, calls for the establishment of a nine-member Education Reform Review Task Force made up of the state’s education commissioner and six gubernatorial appointees recommended by the American Federation of Teachers New Jersey, the New Jersey Association of School Administrators, the New Jersey Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the New Jersey Education Association, the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association, and the New Jersey School Boards Association.
