PATERSON — A Bergen County organization took over the city’s Head Start programs this month, after a local group had administered the services to children and families for decades.
Greater Bergen Community Action, formerly known as the Bergen County Community Action Partnership, officially became the operator of the Head Start programs in Paterson and Propsect Park on July 1.
Greater Bergen won the job through a competitive grant proposal process worth about $7 million in funding. As operator, Greater Bergen will run three early childhood development centers in Paterson and provide services including education, health, nutrition and social services.
The Hackensack-based anti-poverty group already serves more than 500 families through the Head Start program in Bergen County, and will add about 700 more in Paterson and Prospect Park.
