James Harris, the president of the New Jersey State Conference of the NAACP spoke at a news conference held at City Hall in Newark. The press conference was led by State Senator Ronald Rice who is looking for the intervention of federal regulators to look into the State’s refusal to return the school districts in Newark, Jersey City and Paterson to local control. Harris said the state control of the districts is “a racist policy being imposed on cities where black and latino and poor people go to school.” (Video by Andre Malok / The Star-Ledger)
