This newspaper’s Aug. 15 editorial (“It’s time to pass scholarship act”) proves that a little knowledge is still a dangerous thing.

It combines misinformation, disinformation and, frankly, no information to reach a dubious conclusion — New Jersey should spend “a few million dollars” on “scholarships/vouchers — whatever you want to call them — as a pilot program because, why not.”

As to the “few million dollars,” the New Jersey Office of Legislative Services has estimated that under the latest scholarship/voucher bill available “the state would collect $839.9 million less in the corporate business tax over the five years of the pilot program.” Even if a stripped-down version emerges, its cost is certain to be far more than a “few million dollars.”
