Complete College America on Nov. 14 released a white paper in which the advocacy group calls upon higher education leaders and others “to reframe higher education as a public good that is truly available to all” in order to “help restore public trust in higher education, improve civic culture, and renew American democracy.”
The 32-page “Complete College, America: Harnessing the Power of Higher Education to Renew American Democracy” emphasizes how democracy and higher education are interconnected, that the nation’s economy depends on higher education, and how the CCA’s Pillars of Transformation align with the work of the Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement Coalition.
“By fostering students’ civic knowledge, skills, and dispositions alongside their academic and career preparation, colleges can create graduates who are not only successful in their chosen fields but also active and engaged citizens committed to strengthening democratic institutions,” the CCA writes.
