Chiera said, “Long Island University’s management made the wrong decision in locking out Brooklyn Campus faculty and depriving students of experienced and qualified educators. Every day they continue the lockout instead of returning to the bargaining table to work out a fair contract is a perpetuation of the mistake. We stand with the students, workers and community in demanding an immediate end to this ill-conceived lockout and the commencement of good-faith bargaining.”

Dr. Tardi said, “The leadership and membership of AFTNJ Higher Education stand in solidarity with the faculty, staff, and students of Long Island University. We are appalled by the unconscionable, irresponsible, and contemptuous lockout imposed by President Cline which has thrown the University into chaos. The action by President Cline has no place in a University setting where the fundamental purpose is to encourage common, constructive discussion and respect for differing viewpoints. The corporate model is on the rise at universities throughout our nation. It is a model based on investment in buildings and focusing on economics rather than academic quality for students, and positive working environments with fair pay for workers. We urge President Cline to act in a responsible manner and return to good faith collective bargaining on a new contract.”
