Across the country this coming week, AFT’s 80,000 contingent faculty members will be taking action to demand justice in their workplaces and inform the public about the overuse and exploitation of adjunct and contingent faculty.

New Jersey

  • Raritan Valley Community College Faculty Federation Local 2375 will be conducting a teach-in at 1 PM on February 25 and will be conducting a “scarlet A” visibility action. They will also be gathering signatures on a petition to the Board of Trustees to address contingent faculty working conditions.
  • Montclair State University Federation of Adjunct Faculty Local 6025 is conducting a “scarlet A” visibility campaign and on February 25 is encouraging members to discuss contingent faculty working conditions in their classes.
  • AFT Local 1839 at New Jersey City University will be encouraging members to discuss contingent faculty working conditions in their classes. Additionally, they will be grading academic departments on how they adhere to “best practices” in the employment of contingent faculty. Finally, they will be holding “adjunct office hours” in the student union (using ‘Peanuts’-style “the adjunct is in” booth) to highlight the lack of office space for many contingent faculty.
