NEWARK — Rutgers University is preparing to merge its two law schools, campus officials said today.

Under a plan due to be unveiled this afternoon, the state university would combine Rutger-Newark School of Law and Rutgers-Camden School of Law into a single entity. Rutgers President Robert Barchi is scheduled to present the merger proposal at today’s meeting of the Rutgers Board of Governors in Newark.

The plan already has the support of the law school faculty in Camden and Newark. Professors at both schools voted in favor of the idea last month, said John Oberdiek, vice dean of Rutgers School of Law–Camden.
