Bergen County’s proposed 2012 budget would not cut education funding beyond a reduction announced last year, county officials said.

County Executive Kathleen Donovan reduced the county’s contribution to Bergen Community College by about $5 million last year.

But because the county and the college are on different budget cycles — the county’s fiscal year begins in January, the college’s in July — $2.5 million of that cut shows up in Donovan’s proposed 2012 budget.

County officials said this year’s proposed budget contains “no further cuts,” meaning nothing beyond the $5 million eliminated last year. The county’s proposed contribution of about $14.1 million amounts to about 3.7 percent of the overall college budget.
