The board of Kean University in New Jersey voted late Wednesday night to retain its president after an investigation into whether he falsified his academic credentials.

After four hours of deliberation, the governing board passed a vote of confidence for president, Dawood Farahi, by 7-4, with one abstention.

“The board now considers this matter resolved,” the board said in a statement read before an auditorium of teachers and students at the college campus south of Newark. “Quite simply, it is time to go back to work.”

The board said Farahi made serious mistakes on his resume but didn’t indicate it would sanction him.
