Shoshana Goldstein

Shoshana Goldstein May 31, 1943 to July 28, 2018

Shoshana Goldstein died suddenly last month. She taught Sociology and Criminal Justice classes as an adjunct faculty member at Hudson Community College for more than 30 years. Goldstein served as Chapter Chair of the Hudson County College Chapter of United Adjunct Faculty of New Jersey (UAFNJ). She was also an active member of the Executive Board of UAFNJ, AFT #2222.

“Shoshana had a strong sense of morality which was evident with her work both with the Probation Department in NYC and in her never ending fight for the rights of adjunct faculty members,” said UAFNJ President Elaine Bobrove. “In everything she did, Shoshana was a forceful advocate for those she represented.”

Bobrove said Goldstein received an award from East Jersey State Prison for bringing her students there to interact with participants in the Lifer’s Program. She recently retired from the probation department.

“Shoshana was a tireless advocate for the adjunct faculty,” said UAFNJ Secretary-Treasurer Bill Lipkin.

Goldstein was born in Israel and her body was returned to her family to be laid to rest there.

United Adjunct Faculty of New Jersey sent a check to Hudson Community College to initiate a scholarship fund in honor of Goldstein. The scholarships are to go to students in Criminal Justice and/or Sociology, the subjects Goldstein taught in her thirty plus years as an adjunct at HCCC.
