Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday signed into a law a bill that give private schools state funding for security costs.

Speaking at Grover Cleveland Middle School on Tuesday morning, the governor signed into law the “Secure Schools for All Children Act,” which establishes a state aid for security services and equipment at private schools at a cost of up to $75 per student enrolled.

The governor also signed into law other education bills aimed at preventing drug abuse, offering early intervention to students with behavioral or learning problems, increasing transparency and reducing costs, including:

  • S2081, which limits expulsions and suspensions for students in preschool through grade 2, and requires early detection and prevention programs for behavioral issues.
  • A2292,  which requires that guidance for substance abuse instruction provided to public school students incorporates “the most recent evidence-based standards and practices.”
  • A2563, which requires degree-granting institutions to provide Higher Education Student Assistance Authority with graduation as well as transfer rates of state tuition aid grant recipients
  • A2566, which establishes a “Response to Intervention” initiative in school districts.
  • A-3405/S-1822 which permits higher education insitutions to band together and make purchases cooperatively to reduce costs.
