As the new year begins, the AFT Retirees will focus on elections to be held this spring. Pam Hartkopf has been the organization’s president since April 2003 and will complete her fifth term this coming June. Members are urged to consider a position on the board, which meets approximately once a month. Responsibilities are shared among the various officers and members-at-large as we discuss what issues and current events are important to bring to our membership through our website, newsletter and at our general meetings. Through the course of a year, we also plan the four reunion luncheons and gather information to include in our quarterly publication of Newsline. All current Board positions are up for reelection this year. If interested, we encourage and welcome you to attend some of the monthly Executive Board meetings to get a feel for the work of the group. Dory Logan (908-823-3376) and Bill Lipkin (proflipkin@optonline.net) have agreed to lead the Election Committee to suggest candidates. Membership
The AFT Retirees welcomes new members to its organization throughout the year. Formed in 2003, the AFTR makes an effort to keep retiree members aware of the issues facing retirees such as pensions, health care, Social Security and Medicare through its website, quarterly newsletter and luncheon meetings, which also provide social connections among old and new friends. At this time, most of our members are teachers that retired from elementary and high school faculties, but we welcome colleagues from colleges and universities as well.
