Sunrise House

AFT New Jersey sent a $1,000 donation to support locked out workers at Sunrise House rehabilitation facility in Lafayette, New Jersey who have been locked out for a third week. The staff of the drug detoxification and rehabilitation facility—including maintenance and kitchen staff, nurses and detox counselors formed at union with the Healthcare Professional and Allied Employees (HPAE) – American Federation of Teachers last year and are in contentious negotiations with their employer— for-profit American Addiction Centers, Inc. (AAC).

After providing notification that the workers would take a three-day unfair labor practices strike if management did not bargain in good faith, management stopped accepting patients, transferred existing patients and locked out the workers.
