AFT New Jersey has hired Leon Boone III to be the state federation’s political director. His first day was Feb. 2.

During his career, Boone has worked as the regional political director for Gov. Phil Murphy’s reelection campaign, and he was the state and local campaigns manager for the political action committee End Citizens United. He currently serves as the deputy political director for the New Jersey Young Democrats and was previously the president of the South Jersey Young Democrats Black Caucus.

A South Jersey native, Boone received a bachelor’s degree in history from Albright College in Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in history from Rowan University.

“I’m excited to join AFT New Jersey and help advance its mission,” Boone said. “Now more than ever, it’s vital that we support our teachers and education personnel.”

“With Leon on the AFT New Jersey team, we can ramp up our work to elevate the state federation in New Jersey politics,” AFTNJ President Jennifer S. Higgins said Feb. 3.
