MONTCLAIR — The union that represents adjunct professors at Montclair State University collected signatures Thursday in support of a policy that has helped young immigrants living in the country illegally go to school and work, but which is in jeopardy under President-elect Donald Trump’s administration.
[…]Bob Noonan, president of the Montclair Adjunct Union, Local 6025, part of the American Federation of Teachers, said that Thursday was a national day of action for the union, and said that protecting these young immigrants, known as Dreamers, is among the issues the union members are most concerned about. He said the plan is to send the petition to Trump.
“This is a straight appeal, keep it and protect these people, which is very doable,” said Noonan, a former schools superintendent in Essex County. “And it would be very nice to hear tomorrow President Trump say that we are going to maintain it.”
