Executive Vice President, Prekindergarten to 12
Silvia Pereira has been a dedicated educator in the Newark Public Schools system since 2005. She began as a bilingual Portuguese teacher, and for the past six years, Pereira has served as an ESL teacher. During this time, she supported her colleagues through peer coaching, fostering collaboration and growth among ESL teachers.
In 2022, Pereira became vice president at the Newark Teachers Union, where she is the co-editor of NTU publications, co-chair of the negotiations committee and runs professional development for members.
As AFTNJ’s executive vice president for PreK-12, Pereira aims to champion equitable education, amplify teacher voices and advocate for policies that empower both educators and students.
