Dear AFTNJ Leaders and Activists,
We need your support. The AFTNJ Committee On Political Education (COPE) Fund makes it possible for our state federation to have a voice in the political process. This past November we mobilized like never before to elect education and labor friendly candidates in New Jersey’s most competitive races. Thanks to your efforts we maintained Democratic majorities in the Senate and Assembly and even picked up a seat. Labor’s role was nothing short of heroic and thanks to you, AFTNJ members were right in the middle of it all—making phone calls, talking to colleagues and clarifying the issues for union voters. Now we must build up our financial reserves.
With billions in private money behind him, Governor Christie has promised that 2012 will be the “year of education reform.” Across the education landscape, privatization lies at the heart of the right-wing “reform” agenda. We know we are up against efforts to take away earned sick days, undermine teacher tenure, expand unregulated charter schools and pass voucher legislation. Higher education workers are facing an increasingly hostile bargaining environment and the threat of job losses with the merger of UMDNJ with Rutgers and Rowan.
The future of public education—from pre-kindergarten through university—including student access to college, academic freedoms and union rights are under attack.
Are you willing to stand up for what is right?
We must bring the full force of our organization to bear on these important fights that are defining the future of education. We cannot do it without your support. Take a stand: Please make a contribution to the AFTNJ COPE Fund by downloading and printing this form then returning with a check today.
