Member Social Grant
New members frequently do not attend membership meetings and many do not read meeting minutes. They are members, but all too often, uninformed members. For the 2024-25 academic year, this grant would provide a maximum of $1,000 to each local or chapter unit to have a luncheon, ice cream social, social gathering with snacks and soft drinks* etc. to provide an informal mechanism to assemble and educate members about the work of the local, council, state and national levels. The event should be available to all members but specifically used to target the newer faculty and staff members who do not generally participate in union functions.
Criterion: The social event must be something that is new for the local or chapter unit. The grant does not apply to already existing parties, banquets, or meetings.
Reimbursement: The local/chapter unit shall pay for the event and no later than June 16, 2025, shall complete a Member Social Grant Reimbursement Form to the divisional vice president providing a description of the social event, the timeframe of the event, amount of reimbursement requested and proof of expenses incurred.
*Alcoholic beverages cannot be reimbursed by AFTNJ.
