In a profile of AFT President Randi Weingarten for The New York Times, Dana Goldstein writes that Weingarten “is considering making a big speech telling teachers that it can be safe to return to work and crucial to do so.”

Weingarten is described in the story by union critic Derrell Bradford as “the most savvy actor in the AFT by far.”

“She will argue very vigorously and very emphatically, no question about it,” said Dan Weisberg, who was the chief of labor policy for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s education department. “And there are times when, sure, she will be accommodating and charming.”
