When it comes to teachers receiving coronavirus vaccines as part of Phase 1B, AFT President Randi Weingarten recommends the implementation of a strategy similar to “what Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo was doing in terms of New York.”

“I would align [vaccines for teachers] with the schools that are reopening, instead of saying every single teacher — all 3 million, 4 or 5 million educators or education personnel — should be in a line in February,” Weingarten said in an interview with The 74. “In terms of teachers, you can prioritize the schools that are reopening and stagger it in that kind of way, and that’s what we have proposed.”

Weingarten also talks about Miguel Cardona, President-elect Joe Biden’s selection for education secretary, and more. Read the full interview here.
