Early Childhood Professional Development Early childhood educators met Thursday, June 29 at AFT New Jersey offices in Edison to start a peer driven professional learning community focused on early childhood education.

Teachers from Newark, Perth Amboy and the A. Harry Moore School at New Jersey City University participated in the first meeting, planning creation of a networking system for early childhood educators including linking educator to educator and educator to National AFT.

“We will advocate for high quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood community as universal preschools in NJ expand,” said AFT New Jersey President Donna M. Chiera. The professional development will emphasize understanding students’ learning styles and cognitive function to help social emotional development and communication skills, according to Chiera.
