My union story: My journey with my union began back in 2005. It’s an honor to be part of a union that is progressive and responsive to all of its members. The leadership tapped my bilingual skills to translate their message to Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking parents. Since then, my classroom experience and knowledge of instruction and curriculum has led me to various opportunities within the union.
Career highlights/achievements: Bilingual teacher for 13 years, ESL teacher for two years, teacher mentor, ACCESS Test Administrator, Junior Honor Society Advisor, Distance Learning Workshop Presenter.
Interests/hobbies: One of my favorite hobbies is reading. There is nothing like picking up an amazing book that allows us to discover new adventures, and I get to enjoy it more when traveling.
Looking ahead: One of my professional goals is to play a more active role in the instruction and curriculum of English Language Learners. I would like to be able to set up professional development that assists teachers in helping our bilingual population grow and flourish. I want bilingual students to be able to have a smoother transition that allows them to maintain their culture and customs in the classroom.
